5 Amazing Things Every Believer Should Remember About the Gift of Salvation
We taught last time from Hebrews 12. We’re still skipping around a bit following the leading of the Holy Spirit. We’ve already begun laying the foundation (not a new one) but the same one Christ and the early church Apostles laid. We rightly divide word of God, so again it’s not new but a continuance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
- Receiving the spirit of adoption. 2. Running the race of life with patience. 3. Realize as God’s Child, we receive discipline. 4. Be diligent with guarding against bitterness. 5. Seek 1st the kingdom of God. 6. Knowing this Kingdom Can Not Be Shaken.
Today, we are teaching about the The Gift of Salvation.
My title for today is ‘HEIRS OF SALVATION. My text is ‘Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be HEIRS OF SALVATION
HEIRS OF SALVATION
Nicodemus, one of the rulers of the Jews during Jesus’ day and a member of the Sanhedrin and Pharisees.
Lest any man boast, SALVATION is a gift. For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]
9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.
10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[g]
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:1-21
The story of Nicodemus and Jesus explains the process of the ‘Born Again’ experience.
The book of Romans writer in Chapter ten, verse ten offers what is commonly called the Salvation Prayer: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Here are those five amazing things every believer should know about the gift of salvation:
1.Stand firm in your confession of faith. Throughout the book of Hebrews the writer talks about Jesus as High Priest and further confirms the gift of salvation. The writer explained in 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence (faith) steadfast unto the end. And again in, Hebrews 4:14 Seeing them that we have a great high priest, that is passed unto the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
2.Acknowledge God’s confirmation of His Son. The Book of Hebrews Chapter 1:5 Thou are my Son, this day have I begotten thee? He was quoting the Psalmist’s prophecy of the coming Christ. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy. And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. –Hebrews 1:6
Through prophecy again Father God confirms his righteousness, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne O God is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of they kingdom.
3.Know that it is a gift from God. Lest any man should boast, know salvation is a gift from God. The Ephesians writer encourages us with, “For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” –Ephesians 2:8
4.Heed the warning against neglecting Salvation. We covered this in an earlier lesson. The Hebrews writer issues a warning to not neglect so great a salvation that was wrought. He writes it was spoken Jesus himself. (He’s the one that so eloquently said, “For God loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. And the Son did not come to condemn the world but he came to save the world. -John 3:16) Then it was confirmed by the Apostles and disciples and others that heard him and believed. Notwithstanding, God himself bearing them witness both with signs and wonders, and with different kinds of miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to his own will. –Hebrews 2:4
5.Believe you are an Heir of Salvation. Our text scripture Hebrews 1:14 says, Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be HEIRS OF SALVATION. The writer had just finished giving confirmation of God’s only begotten son. –John 3:16 As an heir of salvation and a co-heir with Jesus. Whatever he has inherited belongs to us (believers), as well. –Hebrews 1:2 And again the book of Revelation writer proclaims God’s Gifts of Inheritance in Revelation 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches and wisdom, and might, and honor and glory and blessing.
So, receive your gift of salvation and stand firm in your confession, acknowledge God’s confirmation of Jesus as his only begotten Son. Know more and more it is a gift from God and by his grace walk worthy of it. Heed the warning against neglecting salvation. Finally, believe you are an heir of salvation and a co-heir with Jesus, inheriting all that God has for his household, his people.
