The Blessing - Covenants of Promise

The Lord’s Blessing “May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26

On February 27, 2020 – Jobe, Carnes had written the song together with Steven Furtick and Chris Brown in a writing session on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Elevation prior to leading it at Elevation’s Sunday service on March 1, 2020: The Lord’s Blessing “May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
The song is a prayer for God’s peace and power in uncertainty. After spending a day in the studio with Elevation Worship’s Steven Furtick and Chris Brown, “The Blessing” was quickly written, recorded, and played in church that weekend. “In a season of such fear and awareness of viruses, loss, disappointments..

REVIEW
We covered the first five Covenants of Promise: The Edenic, Adamic, Noachic, Mosaic and Abrahamic Covenants. We meet Noah, Moses, Abraham and Israel formerly Jacob in fresh ways. And how Jacob received the blessing in an unlikely way.

Now for the rest of those ten covenants, starting with the Blessing Covenant:

  1. BLESSING COVENANT
    Numbers 6:24-26; Deuteronomy 26:16-19; Deuteronomy 28:1-9;

The Lord’s Blessing “May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and honey. Obey the LORD’s Commands
16The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these statutes and ordinances. You must be careful to follow them with all your heart and with all your soul. 17Today you have proclaimed that the LORD is your God and that you will walk in His ways, keep His statutes and commandments and ordinances, and listen to His voice.…18And today the LORD has proclaimed that you are His people and treasured possession as He promised, that you are to keep all His commandments, 19that He will set you high in praise and name and honor above all the nations He has made, and that you will be a holy people to the LORD your God, as He has promised.…

1“Now if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God and are careful to follow all His commandments I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you, if you will obey the voice of the LORD your God: 3You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.…

…3You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4The fruit of your womb will be blessed, as well as the produce of your land and the offspring of your livestock— the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5Your basket and kneading bowl will be blessed.…

…6You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. 7The LORD will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you in one direction but flee from you in seven. 8The LORD will decree a blessing on your barns and on everything to which you put your hand; the LORD your God will bless you in the land He is giving you.…
9The LORD will establish you as His holy people, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will stand in awe of you.…

  1. DAVIDIC COVENANT
The Davidic Covenant points to the Messiah and is the covenant God made with King David to always have someone on the throne throughout the generations. Even to the kingdom of God through Christ. His geanology traces back to King David. 2 Samuel 7:22
This is why you are great, Lord God. There is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, as all we have heard confirms.
  2. COVENANT OF PEACE

For one thing, Father God has made a covenant with us the people of God. He declared just like in the days of Noah when he made a promise to him as representative of mankind. He promised that he would not destroy the earth like that again then gave the sign of a rainbow to confirm it, he will keep the promise.

In the same way, he has made a covenant of peace with his people. The Prophet Isaiah proclaimed, |With everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee saith the Lord thy Redeemer. For this as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.” –Isaiah 54:9,10

  1. COVENANT OF PROTECTION
    Numbers 6:24-26; Job 1; Psalm 91

The Lord’s Blessing “May the Lord bless you and keep you; May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
Job 1
Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

According to Psalm 91 we live in the secret place of God’s presence. God is a refuge and mighty fortress. He has given his angels charge over us. Psalm reveals and points to the Lord as our rock, and fortress, and deliverer, our God, our strength, in whom we can trust, our buckler, and the horn of our salvation and our high tower.

  1. THE NEW COVENANT
he New Covenant, a central concept in Christian theology, is a promise from God, found in Jeremiah 31:31-34, of a new relationship with humanity, characterized by forgiveness, a law written on hearts, and a new relationship with God, fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

This new covenant is a promise of forgiveness and a restored relationship with God.

Jesus Christ and the New Covenant: Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Mediator and fulfillment of this New Covenant. Jesus’s death on the cross is seen as the basis for the promise of forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

The Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist (or Communion), is often seen as a symbolic act establishing the New Covenant. Jesus said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood” (Luke 22:20).
Jeremiah 31:31-34 “No, this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel when the time has come,” declares YAHWEH. “I will embed my law into the core of their being and write it on their hearts and minds. Then I will truly be their God, and they will truly be my people.

It is noted in Scripture in the book of Revelation that the mention of blessing becomes Blessing with a capital B. It is because just like the spiritual act of the resurrection became a person. It was revealed when talking to Martha, Lazarus’ sister. He said Martha, ‘I am the Resurrection.’ Also somewhere in the process of writing the Apostle John under the leadership and orchestration of the Holy Spirit, he began referring to the blessing as the Blessing.

Beholding Jesus In The Bible is devotional I’ve been working on. It is a group of short messages about seeing Jesus through the eyes of the Prophets in the Old Testament then seeing it fulfilled in the New Testament. Traveling through these moments has been building a reality of Christ in our hearts over the moments. It is confirming the immutability of God’s word. We launched Season 4 of the Grace Covenant blog and Podcast with the ‘Immutability of God’s Word’.

In summary, we close with the full list of the ten Covenants of Promise that we covered in this installment of The Blessing An Impartation. We started with the first five: Edenic, Adamic hinting and pointing to God’s great plan in End Times, Noahic a testament of God’s enterprise and his promise to never do that again with a wondrous sign of the rainbow, Mosaic Covenant presented the ‘Law’ and hinting at the Grace that was coming in future Ages, Abrahamic Covenant and meeting the father of faith.

Then the final five were the Blessing Covenant – a foreshadow of the coming Blessing, Davidic – confirmation a man after God’s own heart whom all kings were measured by after him and preparation of lineage for the King of kings, Covenant of Peace – testament of the Eternal Peace for God’s people , Covenant of Protection for God’s people throughout the ages, New Covenant resulting in the fulfillment of all the Covenants of Promise with the person of the Blessing, Jesus Christ. Amen.
