Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly (fervently) that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops. -James 5:17,18
In the beginning, the writer of the book of Genesis written as what God revealed and said. “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Webster defines an impartation as the act of imparting something (such as knowledge or wisdom) : a granting or communication of something held in store.
THE POWER OF WORDS
Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, slanders.…—Matthew 15:17,18
Queen Jezebel distinguished herself in creating an evil legacy for Israel. The people trembled at the mention of her name. Under her rule, 850 of the palace prophets were executed in a battle of the gods hosted and led by Prophet Elijah.
Her decrees sent the prophets in the land into hiding. What power did she weld that all Christians do well to avoid? Her name, her life and evil actions still symbolize the spirit of control and the sin of rebellion against God today.
It’s a known fact, Queen Jezebel had a strong gift of influence, as most women do. Yet, her strong power to influence went beyond normal; it overflowed into an evil spirit of control, never taking no as an answer.
History records her gifts and talents were extraordinary but for evil. What a different story we could be telling, if she had stirred up her husband and children to love God and do good works. (2 Timothy 1:6; 2 Peter 1:13).
Her misdirected gifts of influence and talents, instead, brought upon her a curse. Even though, the evil she perpetrated was done under the guise of religion, it was nothing like what Father God says true religion looks like.
The Apostle James wrote, “Pure, undefiled religion, according to God our Father, is to take care of orphans and widows when they suffer and to remain uncorrupted by this world. – James 1:27
OUR WAR USING WORDS
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. —Proverbs 4:23
Queen Jezebel welded her words for evil in a powerful way. Her legacy is the epitome of what we don’t want to be like. Whenever her decrees went forth, the people and especially the prophets went into hiding. Although, most of us are still learning our authority as royalty (a chosen generation, royal priesthood…) we still have power in our words to be responsible for in our modern day. No one is exempt. We are made in the image of God, therefore we all have that creative power in our tongue and ultimately our words.
I’ve noticed that it’s God’s way that we be very careful with our words. You might be asking, why? For one thing, it really is true that the power of life and death resides in the tongue, your mouth. Couple that with the fact our words put a deposit in our hearts that the issues of life flow from.
So, whether we believe it or not, each day we are depositing in our heart with the words we speak, whether for good or evil. In light of that, think for a moment about the deposit that you are making. Is it doubt, fear, unbelief, doom and yes even death and cursing?
Secondly, the words we speak have power. Besides, making the deposit I spoke of earlier, they have the power to influence our own mind and heart (We believe what we say. We listen to our OWN voice more than anyone else) and the hearts of others.
Mouth Speaks What The Heart Is Full Of: Don’t believe me yet, let’s examine some things Jesus and a few others said that support and align with the importance of our words. The religious leaders of that day were always testing Jesus and trying to prove him wrong in some way or trip him up in his words. So, in rebuking them he said, “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For [we all know] the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
Defilement Comes From What Comes Out Of Your Mouth Not What Goes In: Then again later, Jesus was instructing the disciples about a story he had just told, “It’s not what you take in or eat that defiles a man. It’s what comes out of you from your heart that defiles you. For murders, adulteries, and all manner of sin all come from the heart.”
Your Heart Is The Holder Of The Issues Of Life: This is why the proverbial writer instructed us to, “Guard your heart for out of it flows the issues of life.” One more, the Apostle James warned us with, “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”
By now, I’m pretty sure you’ve gotten my point. Be careful with your words. Take a minute and examine what is coming out of your mouth and heart. Are they good words of life, encouragement and faith building? I mean, are you speaking the word of God over your life, family and ministry?
I say all this because, at the time of this writing, Easter is almost here, when we commemorate our Lord’s death, burial and resurrection. He paid a great and horrible price for our life more abundantly. It would be a sore disrespect to receive such a great gift, the grace of God and tear it all away with our words.
I’ve been working on keeping a tight rein on my words, maybe you have too. But I’ve discovered it’s not always easy to do…So, won’t you join me in setting a guard over our mouth that our words might be holy before God more and more?
My prayer this week is that we speak blessings and life over our life and the lives that surround us. Let it be so much so, that when we speak blessing it would actually mean something with the power to change the world for the good and bring glory to His name.
May God bless you and make his face shine upon you, your family and ministry.
